Virtrine Design at Arden Station, Melbourne Metro

This body of work explores the artefacts uncovered during the construction of the Metro Tunnel, which officially opened in 2024 in Melbourne, Naarm. By reflecting on the stories of Melbourne’s past, these artefacts offer an opportunity to reimagine history and create new narratives for our society. The project is shaped by encounters between people, objects, sound, and the surrounding environment, inviting audiences to engage with both the city’s heritage and its future.

The design of the vitrine and its placement at Arden Station demonstrates how this project can connect with the local community while also responding to the climate and environment of the area.

For passengers, the experience of the new train line extends beyond transport; it becomes a place of gathering and connection. The bright re-design and the vitrines exploring colour, light, and form invite moments of reflection and discovery.

Arden Station, located just one stop from the two central CBD stations, is envisioned as a new hub for the local community. By situating artefacts within an accessible and engaging display, the project creates an educational and cultural experience for both travellers and passersby, bridging Melbourne’s layered history with its contemporary urban landscape.
